VinoReel stores your wine collection and photos locally on your device — we never see or access your data.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Wine Collection Data You Provide
When you use VinoReel, you may provide us with the following information:
- Wine Card Data: Wine titles, subtitles, and descriptions that you enter for each wine in your collection
- Wine Photos: Images of wine labels captured with your camera or selected from your photo library
- Preferences: Appearance settings (light, dark, or system theme)
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the app, we automatically collect:
- Device Information: iOS version and device model (used only for app compatibility)
- Language Preferences: Your device's language settings (used for localization)
1.3 Photos and Camera
VinoReel requests access to your camera and photo library to:
- Capture photos of wine labels for your collection
- Select existing wine photos from your library
Photos are stored locally on your device in three optimized variants (original, card-size, and thumbnail). Photos are only sent to external servers when you explicitly trigger AI analysis (see Section 5).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Manage Your Collection: Store and organize your wine cards in a browsable carousel
- Display Photos: Show wine label images at appropriate resolutions throughout the app
- AI Analysis: When you choose to analyze a wine label, send the photo to OpenAI for identification (see Section 5)
- Personalize Experience: Apply your appearance preferences
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
All your personal data is stored locally on your device. We do not maintain servers that store your personal information. Your data remains on your iPhone or iPad in the following locations:

3.2 Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures:
- All data is stored in the app's sandboxed directory, protected by iOS
- No personal data is transmitted to our servers (we have no servers)
- The app follows iOS security best practices and sandboxing guidelines
4. API Key Storage
If you choose to use AI-powered wine label analysis, you provide your own OpenAI API key. This key is:
- Stored securely in the iOS Keychain with the accessibility level
kSecAttrAccessibleWhenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly - Never stored in plain text, databases, or UserDefaults
- Never transmitted to any server other than OpenAI's API
- Deletable at any time through the OpenAI Settings screen
5. Third-Party Services
5.1 OpenAI
VinoReel uses OpenAI's vision API to analyze wine label photos and extract information such as wine name, vintage, region, and grape variety. When you trigger AI analysis:
- Up to three selected wine photos are sent to OpenAI's servers
- Your OpenAI API key is used to authenticate the request
- OpenAI processes the image and returns wine information
- We do not control how OpenAI handles data sent to their servers

5.2 No Other Third-Party Services
VinoReel does not use:
- Analytics or tracking services
- Advertising networks or ad identifiers
- Cloud storage or sync services
- Crash reporting services
- Social media integrations
6. What We Do NOT Collect
VinoReel does not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, or contact information
- Location data or GPS coordinates
- Advertising identifiers or device fingerprints
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Contacts, calendars, or other personal data
7. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties except in the following circumstances:
- OpenAI (with your action): When you explicitly trigger AI analysis, up to three selected photos are sent to OpenAI (see Section 5)
- Sharing features: When you use the system share sheet to share wine photos or information
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or governmental authority
8. Your Privacy Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: View all your data within the app at any time
- Modification: Edit or update your wine cards and settings
- Deletion: Delete individual wine cards, photos, or all data
- API Key Control: Delete your OpenAI API key at any time through Settings
8.1 Complete Data Deletion
To delete all your data, simply delete the VinoReel app from your device. This removes all locally stored data including wine cards, photos, preferences, and your API key from the Keychain.
9. Children's Privacy
VinoReel is a wine collection application rated 17+ on the App Store due to its alcohol-related content. It is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 17.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
- Updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
- Providing updates through new app versions
Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Compliance
We process your data based on your consent, which you provide by using the application. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your data within the app or by deleting the app from your device.
